Panama City Beach – 4th on July Wrap Up

July 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

There were lots of activities around our Panama City Beach Condos yesterday for the 4th of July.

Down at Pier Park the message was clear: The Fourth of July is all about America.  Inside the bustling Pier Park, a group of veterans gathered around five military monuments Friday. They came to say thanks as past and present Beach leaders led a rededication ceremony of the Bay County Veterans Memorial.  The memorial, which features tributes to the major branches of U.S. Armed Forces, was first constructed just a few years ago, when Pier Park was just a mere Target store and a lot of sand.

“As we celebrate our independence … our liberty, we celebrate Americans everywhere,” said Lee Sullivan, a Marine Corps veteran and former Beach mayor.  Sullivan, sporting his trademark cowboy hat and wearing a pair of Versace shades, said the country’s forefathers shared “a dream for freedom and a thirst for self-reliance.”

The stars and stripes were displayed prominently throughout Pier Park. Red, white and blue was everywhere, from golf carts to sidewalk art displays.

The 4th of July is my favorite night on the beach.  Last night was no exception.  We have friends from Dallas visiting that had not been on the Beach doe the 4th before.  From dusk until midnight the sky was filled with firework displays as far as you could see in either direction up and down the beach.  At 9pm the PCB display lit up the sky.

What a great way to celebrate 232 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  We are very blessed!

I hope you had fun yesterday too!
