This is late notice but if you are visiting Panama City Beach today this event may be fun to check out. The third annual AquaPalooza on Shell Island is expected to draw a record crowd Saturday July 26, 2008.
“We will have everything from a 70-foot yacht to a pontoon boat,” said Mike Riggsbee, sales manager for Treasure Island Marina and a committee member for AquaPalooza. “We’re trying to set a record. Last year’s guest registration was about 200, and this year we have more than 1,000, including more than 200 boats.”
AquaPalooza is the world’s largest summer boating bash and is held in at least 12 countries. The local event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with boats anchoring on the St. Andrew Bay side of Shell Island near Spanish Ante. There will be activities such as a bean bag toss, volleyball, sandcastle-building contest, obstacle courses and live entertainment, as well as cookouts.
“This event is all about boats. The majority will be Sea Rays, but this is for non-boat owners, too, who want to learn what it’s all about,” Riggsbee said.
There was no cost to register, and Riggsbee said people can show up Saturday for the event. For more information, including times for shuttles to and from the island, call Treasure Island Marina at (850) 234-6533. Shell Island is approximately 10 miles from our Panama City Beach Condo.
