Panama City Beach – Snowbirds SunCard Program 2010

PANAMA CITY BEACH — Winter guests along Panama City Beach will again have the opportunity this year for free coffee and donuts and to participate in the annual “SunCard” program, which extends discounts by selected businesses.

If you are a Panama City Beach Condo winter guest or know one, let them know about this program.

The Panama City Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau will launch its SunCard program Friday at the Visitor Information Center, at the corner of State 79 and Back Beach Road (U.S. 98).

This is the 10th season for the Winter Resident Sun Card program, during which more than 11,000 SunCards have been distributed, said Dana Lent, communication manager for the CVB.

“We had the most successful year ever last year,” she said, where almost 3,500 cards were distributed.

CVB staff members will begin issuing the official winter resident “SunCard” to new winter residents and repeat winter residents Friday and will continue during regular business hours, Monday through Sunday, through Feb. 5, Lent said.

Gulf Coast Community College is participating for the first time by offering short-term classes on various subjects, such as digital photography, drawing and yoga.  Representative from GCCC are expected to be at five SunCard coffee and donut days to promote the classes to winter residents. The CVB will serve free coffee and doughnuts beginning Friday and continuing Jan. 8, 15, 29 and Feb. 5, Lent said.

On Jan. 29, snowbirds will again have the opportunity to chat with Canadian radio personality Prior Smith, known as the Canadian version of the homespun Paul Harvey, with his snippets of news, sports, stocks, weather and gossip from Canada.

Panama City Beach winter residents can use the free SunCards for value-added programs and discounts at participating restaurants, hotels and other area attractions and events. More than 30 businesses already have signed up, Lent said.

“The purpose of this program is to extend a warm welcome to all our winter residents and let them know how much we appreciate them here in Panama City Beach,” said Dan Rowe, president and CEO of the Panama City Beach CVB.
