Five years after Jenny and Teddy Meeks purchased the 1964 carousel from the old Miracle Strip Amusement Park, they will enter the spring season with 11 rides at Miracle Strip at Pier Park.
Crews are busy installing two “new” vintage children’s rides, a 1949 Allen Herschell car ride and a 1969 boat ride, to add to the Meeks’ goal to recapture the days of the past.
The new rides will join the park’s nine other vintage rides, many of which were salvaged from the old Miracle Strip Amusement Park, which operated on the beach from 1963 to 2004.
Miracle Strip at Pier Park will be open on weekends through the month of February and full time starting March 1. Meeks said they use the off-season to conduct maintenance on the rides, a continuing effort with attractions that are 40, 50 and 60 years old.
Other rides at the park include a 1975 Big Eli Ferris Wheel, 1952 Allen Herschell Red Baron Planes, 1975 Eli Bridge Scrambler and a 1980 Sea Dragon.
